Together with representatives from politics and business, Oldenburg-based IFE Eriksen AG is joined by banks from Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven for the official opening of the largest solar farm in the Elbe-Weser region, in the municipality of Krempel (district of Cuxhaven). Rated at 2.3 megawatts, the "Sonnenberg” solar farm generates around 2.2 million kWh of electricity annually – sufficient to satisfy the energy needs of around 500 four-person households.
IFE Eriksen AG has invested around EUR 6 million in this project, via an operating company owned by the Eriksen Group. The solar farm is financed by a consortium of two local savings banks: Stadtsparkasse Cuxhaven and Sparkasse Bremerhaven. "The Stadtsparkasse has proven to be a strong partner who can provide outstanding support for the regional aspects of this project," explains Heiner Willers, member of IFE Eriksen AG’s Management Board.
"Climate protection and sustainability are important issues for Stadtsparkasse Cuxhaven and Sparkasse Bremerhaven," says Ralf-Rüdiger Schwerz, member of the Management Board of Stadtsparkasse Cuxhaven. "We are therefore very pleased to now have one of northern Germany's largest solar farms on our doorstep."
The Sonnenberg solar farm covers a total of six hectares – roughly the area of 12 football pitches. The "Sonnenberg" – the hill on which the solar farm now stands – was formerly a military site. Today, around 10,500 solar modules produce eco-friendly electricity.
